ARTIST Q&A – TERRY BROWN

WHAT MADE YOU GET INTO TATTOOING?

Ever since I can remember I have been drawing. Throughout school it’s all I cared about, but I could never answer the question of what I wanted to do with it for a job. I just wanted to make a piece of art for its own sake. Careers advisors don’t really point kids in the direction of tattooing, which I think is a shame. I got tattooed young, and always kept drawing but it wasn’t until I was in my late 20’s that I had the idea and an opportunity to start tattooing. Since then I’ve never looked back and I love it more every day! I love making a piece of art that the client gets to take everywhere with them.

WHAT STYLE OF TATTOOING DO YOU SPECIALISE IN AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THAT STYLE?

I specialise in illustrative and Japanese tattooing. I love the mix of realism and forced perspective with illustrative tattooing along with the freedom of interpretation. Japanese tattooing is consistently inspires me; I love the bold lines and bright colours.
